My iMac decided to break down on me on Tuesday…Since I had some files that I was working on saved on the desktop…I thought I was losing everything…I almost had a heart attack! The IT guy came down and spent almost half day to try to fix my computer. Luckily, he was able to rescue my works from the desktop! But they are still trying to fix it…so I’m stuck with the old Mac which is extremely slow!

I was extremely slammed last week, which leads me not have any time to blog about work at all…

This is what happened:

My boss went to a meeting in New York on last Thursday… She left off a project that she did for G&G International which is a branch of our company that based in Charlotte, NC. Without much information, I was told to pick up the project. The person who I worked with was given non-specific direction. The project turned out finished on time, but it definitely took me a lot longer than I expected.

I discuss with my boss about the issue, she told me that it is not my fault, and she has been experiencing communication issues with them as well. During this project, I have learned that Communication is the key for EVERYTHING.

I attached samples here of that I designed for them… Basically, they are presenting these mock ups to Belk to promote all the cosmetic brands that they carrybelk-bag-3

Work is so slow…I almost have to beg for things to do…

Since I’ve been bugging Christine (Beverage Division Director) all morning to see if they have anything to do, she told me that they are planning on doing a Heineken Catalog. The one that I did last year had a really good response! I’m definitely feeling this cover that I designed this morning, but I’m still debating if I should use that font for the title…If you have any suggestions…please let me know!

We are getting ready to do a mask mailing to all the Miller and Diageo distributors in the country..I’m pretty excited because all the flyers I design are going to get to thousands of people hand…I hope they will get good feedback and orders from the flyers!

Due to the cost of printing, I had to redesign the Miller Lite Golf Flyer. Instead of double sided 11 x 17″, I changed it to double sided 8.5 x11″..I actually like the new design better than the old one :P . I also did a flyer for Miller Chill and Red Stripe Summer!

On the other hand…I’ve been sitting at Marketing department even though I work for Beverage Division (both dept locate at different part of the building)…It has been a lot of confusion about who my boss is, who I should listen to..all kinds of stuff. I know that Beverage Division director is my boss, but the Marketing Director somehow thinks that I’m her assistant! A sales person quit last week…and now, there is an empty seats at Beverage Division! I really want to move over there since people are more fun and will be so much easier to work with (save a lot of walking, e-mail and calling)!! I asked the Beverage Division Director…just waiting back for the answer….

Work Has been a little slow last week. Most of my work was mock ups, and I designed a flyer last week. The flyer is not the best that I hva’e done, but Beverage Division Director really wants to save cost in terms of printing and mailing. So I had to fit like 12 products in a letter size flyer. I had a hard time coming up with a theme since it’s called Dealer Loader.

I just now finished the Golf Catalog for Guinness!!! I LOVE IT!! It feels good to design something that come out nice!! I’m thinking about putting it in the portfolio!

By designing this catalog, I have learned that proof reading skills is very important as a designer! I had to revise it 3 times after I the 1st draft… I’m trying so hard to improve it…I hope there will no mistake with 1st draft! :)

I was assigned to design a flyer for Miller Light Golf Catalog yesterday, and there were about 15 products. I don’t know much about golfing, so I did some research by google “golf”and look for stock images on istock. I spent about an hour looking for images before starting to download the product images. I found this beautiful golf course image on istock! By designing flyers for G&G , I learnt that it’s difficult to try to fit a lot of products on one flyer.

Here is the catalog :)

I was assigned to design some tee shirts for Mike’s Hard Lemonade with very few info of what the client is expecting..I did some research on the company and their marketing strategy. However, they have a very limited advertising themes…  I know that the client wants the tee shirt to look more Urban Outfitters feel!

Below is a few that I like….it was fun to design tee shirt! :)

Due to the snow storm, I couldn’t come in to work yesterday. It turned out to be a day off for myself! It’s nice to not have to wake up early on Monday and drive an hour to work! :)

Beverage Division is starting to pick up business again in the past couple weeks, which brings me more design work to do! EXCELLENT! I got to design tattoo, koozies, and tee shirts! It’s pretty fun!

The company laid off one of the art department guys last week (he has been working here for 8 years)…It’s pretty scary and makes me feel so thankful to have a job. I can’t wait for the economy to get better….

Things has been going pretty well at G&G. It was pretty busy today….I’m working on the AMP Catalog Revision. This catalog seems to never ends…the client has so many changes. I’ve been working on it for 4 months already. I can’t wait until it gets approval, so the sales people can make a lot of money off it and I can put it in my portfolio!!
